B.A. in German Studies
Single Major
30 hours above 200 level as follows
- GERM 304 German Through Cultural Texts (may be replaced by study abroad)
- GERM 305 Enlightenment and Romanticism, 1750-1850 and GERM 306 Realism to Modernity, 1850-Present
- 4 GERM 300 level courses (up to two may be from the department’s offering in English)
- 3 GERM 400 level courses
Double Major
24 hours above 200 level
- GERM 304 German Through Cultural Texts (may be replaced by study abroad)
- GERM 305 Enlightenment and Romanticism, 1750-1850 and GERM 306 Realism to Modernity, 1850-Present
- 3 GERM 300 level courses (one may from the department’s offerings in English)
- 2 GERM 400 level courses
Please note: For single majors, a maximum of four transfer courses can count toward the major. For double majors, a maximum of three transfer courses can count toward the major. Requests for exception to these rules will be considered by department committee.
Honors Thesis
The department strongly encourages qualified students to undertake an honors thesis in their final year, which consists of a substantial essay based on independent research under faculty supervision. Students should consider this option especially if they wish to apply to graduate school in the humanities, social sciences, and law.
